MARKET UPDATE on 16 APRIL 2019


Market Opens :

Indian indices opened higher on Tuesday with Nifty above 11,700 level.

At 09:17 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 173.03 points or 0.44% at 39078.87, and the Nifty up 51.50 points or 0.44% at 11741.90. About 546 shares have advanced, 156 shares declined, and 30 shares are unchanged. 

Dr Reddy's Lab, Vedanta, Cola India, ICICI Bank, IOC, Asian Paints, Wipro, Hero Moto, JSW Steel , Bharti Airtel, SBI are the major gainers on the indices in the morning trade, while on the other hand Infosys, Tata Motors, HUL and Tata Steel are trading lower.

All the sectoral indices are trading in green led by metal, pharma, energy, auto, infra, bank and IT.

Nifty50 touched a record high in today's trading as it crossed its earlier high of 11761.

At 09:58 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 285.22 points or 0.73% at 39191.06, and the Nifty up 78.30 points or 0.67% at 11768.70.

Rupee Opens :

The Indian rupee opened lower by 7 paise at 69.49 per dollar on Tuesday versus 69.42 yesterday.

New Listing :

Shares of Polycab India settled at Rs 633 on the Bombay Stock Exchange against issue price of Rs 538.

Global Markets :

Wall Street ends lower :

Wall Street lost ground on Monday, dragged down by financials as underwhelming bank earnings curbed investor enthusiasm.

SGX Nifty :

Trends on SGX Nifty indicate a flat opening for the broader indices in India, a gain of 17 points or 0.14 percent. Nifty futures were trading around 11,754-level on the Singaporean Exchange.

Asian markets trade mixed :

Asian stocks hovered below a nine-month peak on Tuesday after disappointing bank earnings dented Wall Street, though recent signs the global economy is likely to avoid a sharper downturn helped limit the losses.

Banking & IT sectors among 5 FII favourites

The S&P BSE IT index rose 8%, while Nifty Bank rose 12% hitting record high, S&P BSE oil & gas index gained 11% and Nifty Pharma gained 5% in the March quarter.

Foreign investors poured in more than Rs 46,000 crore in the March quarter into Indian equities with maximum investments in five sectors, including financials, IT and automobile.

Total financial services sector witnessed the highest inflows as on March 31. According to NSDL data, Total financial services includes banks and other financial services (financial institutions, holding companies, HFCs, NBFCs, AMC, and EFT).

Apart from financials, foreign investors preferred to pour money into technology stocks, oil & gas, autos and pharma names.

LS polls in Vellore likely to be cancelled: Sources

The Lok Sabha polls in Vellore constituency in Tamil Nadu is likely to be cancelled over excess use of money power, sources aware of the development said on April 15.
The Election Commission is learnt to have prepared a recommendation in this regard to be sent to the president.

Wires and cables manufacturer Polycab India will make a debut on bourses on April 16 after an overwhelming response to its public issue last week. The final issue price is fixed at the higher end of the price band of Rs 533-538 per share.

Tata Metaliks Ltd, a pig iron manufacturer and supplier, said Monday its net profit rose by 17.74 percent to Rs 64.35 crore during the quarter ended March 31, 2019.

Jet Airways' survival remained under serious threat after its lenders Monday deferred a much-anticipated decision to provide emergency funds to the carrier following a marathon meeting, even as its pilots' union appealed to the lenders and the prime minister to save the airline.

Lenders are unlikely to extend any interim funding for company as of now and will weigh seriousness of bids received before firming up plans on funding.
